Photographic Journal: Wasp Nest

Ordinary Things Wasp NestI found this wasp nest in our yard today.  It is so light and delicate!  The walls are made of paper pulp and look like little Japanese paper screens.  Wasps make pulp by chewing wood debris and mixing in saliva.  Then they form these multi-cell combs for nesting out of it.  What an architectural accomplishment!
